LDE Workshop
20 - 24 March 2023
A 5 day workshop on 'Working Towards Digital Inclusion of the Urban Poor in India, Indonesia & Kenya' was funded by LDE and hosted at Anna University, Chennai, India. The workshop brought together gender, housing, ICT experts from 4 nations on one platform for co-creation and co-learning initiative.








Documentary Screening to the DAIDA Foundation Board Members

We Too Urban Women, a 40-minute film, funded by the DAIDA Foundation from The Netherlands was screened to the board members. The documentary shows the stories of urban resettled women who depend on the city for their livelihood. They stress the need for inclusive urban development initiatives by asserting that these poor women need the city, and the city needs them too.

C4D Workshop

A 3-day workshop on 'Communication for Development: Interventions in Resettlement to improve Livelihood Outcomes for Women' under the MHRD-SPARC project was hosted at Anna University, Chennai, India. The workshop brought together film maker, activist, gender, housing, ICT experts and students on one platform for planning of the participatory action research process and deliverables.
C4D Conference

An international conference on 'Communication for Development: Interventions for Empowering Women' under the MHRD-SPARC project was hosted at Anna University, Chennai, India. The conference aimed to kindle critical thinking and innovative ideas to promote women empowerment. This thought provoking conference allowed the creation of different communication and knowledge sharing frameworks which will encourage an inclusive development.








International Course
9-13 December 2019
One week international course on 'Urban Housing and Resettlement from a Gender, Governance and Livelihood Perspective' under the MHRD-SPARC project was hosted at Anna University, Chennai, India. The main objective of the course was to critically reflect on the impact resettlement projects have on the livelihood of women. The course combined different learning and teaching methodologies from participatory lectures to group work, field visits and exposure to international experts in the subject matter.
Anna University PhD Scholars visit to Erasmus University
1-30 October 2019
Two PhD scholars from the Department of Media Sciences, CEG, Anna University, Chennai, India visited IHS, Erasmus University, The Netherlands from 1 - 30 October 2019 under the MHRD-SPARC project. During the visit, the scholars attended a course on 'Urban Theory'. Also, the scholars worked on three research articles during the period.




International Conference Presentation
7-11 July 2019
An article titled 'Participatory Media for Empowering Women in Urban Resettlement site: Opportunities, Challenges and perspectives' was presented at International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) conference, Madrid, Spain. The article was jointly authored by Dr. Sunitha DonBosco, Dr. C. Velayutham, Dr. Maartje Van Eerd and Dr. Alonso Ayala.
IHS, Erasmus University Research Students Fieldwork in Resettlement Sites in Chennai
1-30 June 2019
Five MSc students from IHS, Erasmus University, The Netherlands visited the Department of Media Sciences, CEG, Anna University, Chennai from 1 - 30 June 2019. During the visit, the IHS students did the field work for the joint research on the topics like Media, ICT in resettlement sites in Chennai with the assistance of Anna University research students.








International Course Attended
3-24 May 2019
Dr. Sunitha DonBosco and Dr C. Velayutham from the Department of Media Sciences, Anna University, Chennai, India attended a two week International course on 'Local Economic Development to Improve livelihood for Poor'.
DAIDA Workshop
17-18 December 2018
A 2 day workshop on 'Participatory Media for Women in Resettlement Site' funded by the DAIDA foundation, The Netherlands was hosted by the Department of Media Sciences, CEG, Anna University, Chennai, India. Through the workshop, the housing visions of the women from the resettlement site were visualised, their information need and stories were heard, followed by introducing them to the technical fundamentals of using mobile phone technology and social media to tell their stories.
